How to Fight Pride with Bible Verses
Regardless of whether
you are proud because of your physique, possessions, pals or personal
achievements, you have to combine spiritual, mental, verbal, and physical
interventions to form your own holistic deliverance ministry to fight pride
because There are six things that the
Lord hates, yes seven that He detests: a proud look (Proverbs 6:16) is the
first one that is mentioned and this shows us how much God abhors pride.
We can also see how He
punishes pride because He made King Nebuchadnezzar eat grass when he became too
proud of his accomplishments. The Bible tells us that while He was walking in the royal palace in Babylon,
King Nebuchadnezzar said, “Is not this the great Babylon, that I have built for
a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”
But while he was still speaking, a voice from
heaven said: “King Nebuchadnezzar, the kingdom has departed from you! And you
shall be driven from men to live with the beasts of the field. You shall eat
grass like oxen and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the
Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”
That same hour, this word was fulfilled and King
Nebuchadnezzar was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was
moistened by dew, his hair grew like eagle’s feathers and his nails like bird’s
claws. (Daniel 4:28-33)
From this event in King Nebuchadnezzar’s life we can see that we do not
have any reason to be haughty about our accomplishments or anything else in our
lives because it is God who gives us the ability to accomplish those things in
the first place.
In addition, we have to give God glory and credit for enabling us reach
the heights of success we have attained if we do not want to eat humble pie or
as in the case of Nebuchadnezzar humble grass pie.
We have to be careful not to self-destruct by filling ourselves with the hot air of pride for this will make us float
around in our mental palace with a false sense of superiority until the hot air
bubble bursts spilling our lives to the ground for Pride goes before
destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
Therefore, desist from being arrogant for the
Lord says The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not
endure. (Psalm 101:5) Instead, Humble yourselves under the mighty hand
of God, that He may exalt you in due time. (1 Peter 5:6)
To overcome pride with humility, you have to
combine spiritual, mental, verbal,
and physical interventions to form your own holistic deliverance ministry.
The first spiritual
intervention for purging pride from your life is to pray and ask God for help. As
you pray, use Scriptures since the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit
(Ephesians 6:17) that God has given us to fight with. We will therefore call
the Scriptures that we will use to SWORD WORDS.
SWORD WORDS that you can use as personal pride deliverance prayers include:
1. Father God, Your word
says that “A man's pride will bring him
low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor” therefore I ask you in the
name of Jesus to help me be humble in my thoughts, words, and deeds so that I
may retain my honor. (Adapted Proverbs 29:23)
2. Father God, Your word says that “Whoever exalts
himself will be humbled but whoever humbles himself will be exalted” (Matthew 23:12)therefore
I ask you in the name of Jesus to help me humble myself under your Mighty hand
so that you may exalt me in due time. (1 Peter 5:6)
