How to Ensure Your Prayers are Answered Book Excerpt
The following are some of the things that can be viewed as insurance for ensuring that your prayers are answered:
1. Confess your Sins

The Lord’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save you, or His ear heavy that He cannot hear you.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God and your sins have hidden   His face from you so that  He will not hear.
(Isaiah 59:1-2)

God answers prayers but sin can separate us from Him so that when we pray, He does not hear our prayers just as it had separated the Israelites from God.

The type of sins that hindered their prayers were:
a) “Big sins” of commission such as murder {Your hands are defiled with blood. Isaiah 59:3)}
b) “Small sins” such as lying {Your lips have spoken lies. (Isaiah 59:3)}
c) Sins that probably only God knew about such as whispering nasty words {Your tongue has muttered perversity. (Isaiah 59:3)}
d) Sins of omission for No one calls for justice, nor does anyone plead for truth. (Isaiah 59:4)

Therefore, confess all your known sins to God and ask Him to forgive you all your sins even those that you cannot remember so that your prayers are heard and consequently answered.

2. Forgive those who sin against you

When you stand to pray, forgive, if you have anything against anyone so that your Father Who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
 (Mark 11:25)
If you want God to forgive you your sins by answering your prayers for forgiveness, you have to forgive those who have hurt you so that God can forgive you.
This forgiving of those who have hurt you or sinned against you in any way is very important since if you do not forgive them, God will not forgive you and your unforgiven sins will hinder all your other prayers.

Therefore, make it a habit to continuously forgive people when they harm you since holding grudges is a self defeating action.

Strengthen your resolve to forgive by reminding yourself of Jesus’ words when Peter asked, “Lord, how often shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Seven times?”
Jesus answered, “I say not seven times, but seventy times seven.”  (Matthew 18:21-22)
Therefore, continuously forgive others so that God can continuously forgive you and answer your prayers.
