It is very important to have an altar dedicated to God inside your home because The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household. (2 Samuel 6:11)
The Bible tells us that the sons of Obed-Edom were Shemaiah, Jehozabad, Joah, Sacar, Nethaneal, Ammiel, Issachar and Peulthai For God blessed him. (1 Chronicles 26:5)
Obed's grandchildren were also blessed because his first born Shemaiah had sons who Governed their father's houses for they were men of great ability. (1 Chronicles 26:6) These men were really capable men because the Bible reiterates that Elihu and Semachiah who were Shemaiah's sons were Able men. (1 Chronicles 26:7)
It also goes on and says, 62 descendants of Obed Edom - his sons and grandsons - were Able men who were strong enough for the work. (1 Chronicles 26:8)
This shows us that having an altar dedicated to God in your home can result in Him blessing your children and grandchildren.
Another benefit of having a family altar in your home is that it fills your home with God's presence as you praise and thank Him there. (Psalm 100:4)
In addition, having God's presence in your home is especially beneficial if you have spiritually cleansed it and evicted evil spirits incase they try to re-enter it.
Your family altar can be a room where you where you pray and worship the Lord God with your spouse and children or alone if you are single.
If you do not have an entire room to spare, you can dedicate a corner of a room where you kneel or sit and talk to God.
Regardless of whether you dedicate an entire room or a small space to be God's altar in your home, ensure that the room is clean and free from clutter.
The altar in your home should also have a Bible that can read as you pray.
Other items to consider placing in your home altar include Christian books like devotionals that you use to read during your quiet time and journals or notebooks with lists of your prayer requests. You can also keep photos of the people and things you are praying for.
In addition, have a DVD player or any other equipment that you can use to play Christian praise and worship music in your altar room so that you can be ushered into the presence of the Lord.
