Why Old Wineskins Cannot Support New Wine

Are you trying to do a new thing for God?

Are you shocked to find opposition coming from people who have been serving God but in a different way?

If you are, understand that old wineskins cannot support new wine.

Jesus said, No one sews a piece of new cloth on an old garment because it will pull away from the garment and make the tear worse.

No one puts new wine into old wineskins because it will make the wineskin burst which will spill the wine and ruin the wineskin. Instead, new wine is put into new wineskins and both are preserved. (Luke 5:36-38)

Therefore stop waiting for oldwine skins to support your new wine project because they do not have the capacity to contain it.  

We can see a good example of people who are used to doing things in a certain way not supporting those who begin doing it in a different way from Jesus' own ministry. For starters, Jesus spoke this parable when the disciples of John asked Him why they and the Pharisees fasted often but Jesus own disciples did not.

The Pharisees, who were the prescribed spiritual leaders of the day, looked for ways to harm Jesus because He was doing things in ways that were different from what they had been been used to for centuries.

Nehemiah also experienced the same problem when he was leading the rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem because the existing Nobles did not build the part of the wall they were supposed to build. (Nehemiah 3:5)   

Therefore if you are trying to do something new for God, do not expect all the people  who have been serving Him in various ways to support your new ministry.

Instead of wasting your time waiting for their approval, begin doing what God has called you to do if He has  given you the go-ahead.

Know that even though it is good to have human support, all you really need is God's support because He can help you finish the entire project for God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than you can ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20) 

In addition, with the humans that you are seeking to support you, somethings are impossible. But, With God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

God is able to help you do those humanly impossible things because It is not by might, nor by power but by My Spirit says the Lord God Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6)

Therefore stop wasting your energy trying to be accepted by old wineskins or blend into old garments.

Use that energy to do what God has called you to do and fulfill His purposes for your new generation like David who served the purposes of God for his generation.(Acts 13:36) 

As you do this, do not hate or feel bitter towards the old wineskins who refuse to support your new project or even openly oppose it because No one who has drunk old wine immediately desires new wine because they say, "The old wine is better." (Luke 5:39)
