it is very important to remind yourself of what God had done for you in the past since it strengthens your faith in what He can do for you in your present.
This confidence in God's ability to help you increases your courage to face any challenges in your present.
We can see a good example of this when David faced the challenge of fighting Goliath for he told King Saul, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of Goliath." (1 Samuel 17:37)
By reminding himself of how God had helped him fight lions and bears, David encouraged himself and emboldened himself.
Therefore keep a Book of Blessings where you write down all the good things that God does for you so that when you are faced with a challenge you can go back and read them to remind yourself of what He is able to do for you.
Reminding yourself of what God had done for you in the past will also stop you from offending God by complaining.
We can see a good example of this from the Israelites when they left Elim and went to the Wilderness of Sin because they started complaining and said, "It would have been better if God had killed us in Egypt when we sat beside pots of meat and ate bread till we were full because you have brought us to this wilderness to kill us with hunger". (Exodus 16:1-3)
These were very harsh words considering that in Elim God had provided them with 12 springs of water after they had suffered from a lack of water followed by having bitter, undrinkable waters.
If the Israelites had just reminded themselves of what God had done for them in the place they had just left, they would have recognized that even in there in the Wilderness of Sin, He could provide for them food to eat and prayed for food instead of complaining about the lack of food.
Reminding themselves about God's goodness in Elim would have enabled them to make positive confessions like David and declared, "The Lord who provided us with 12 spring of water in Elim when we did not have anything to drink, He will also provide us with food now that we do not have nothing to eat."
In addition when the Israelites left the Wilderness of Sin and went to Rephidim, they did not have water to drink and they begun contending with Moses and complaining asking, "Why have you brought us out of Egypt to kill us with your children and livestock with thirst?" (Exodus 17:3)
They even tempted God by asking, "Is the Lord among us, or not?" (Exodus 17:7) Now do you see why God was so angry with these Israelites?
To avoid being in a similar situation because of a short memory, keep a Book of Blessings since reading about the good things that God has done for you in the past will reduce the stress, anxiety and fear of dealing with the bad events in your present.
In your Book of Blessings you can also attach photos of things you obtained from God to make it more vivid.
We can see an example of this after God begun raining down Manna from heaven for the Israelites to eat in the Wilderness of Sin for He commanded Moses saying, "Keep some Manna for your descendants to see the bread I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of Egypt." (Exodus 16:32)
So if God provides something for you miraculously, take a photo of it regardless of whether it is a baby, a car or a new job (take a photo of your work desk) and keep it in your Book of Blessings to remind yourself of His goodness.
Another option is to go digital.
For example you can set up a Blessings Board on Pinterest and use it to upload and pin images of what God has done for you. If you do not have time to take photos and upload, you can pin other images you find on Pinterest that are symbolic of your blessings.
Looking at the images of your Blessings Board will strengthen your faith when are dealing with challenges because they will remind you that if God has been able to provide all those things for you, He is also able to provide you with what you need currently.
If you do not want the whole world to know of your Blessings, you can make it a secret board.
In addition, note that you do not have to read your Book of Blessings when times are bad. You can also read it during your good times as you Praise God and Prophesy over your Life.
Buy a notebook and label it
your Book of Blessing. Write down all your blessings and victories in your Book
of Blessings so that you do not forget them. In addition, every time you face a challenge, read through your Book
of Blessings so that you can remind yourself how God helped you win your past
battle because this will strengthen your faith in believing that He can help
you win your current challenges. Reading through your Book of Blessings will
also enable you to face your enemies fearlessly the way David faced gigantic
Goliath fearlessly because he reminded himself that The Lord God who
delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver
me from the hand of this Philistine. (1 Samuel 17:37)
If
you are able, keep a portion of the thing that God blessed you with so that you
can share it as a testimony with your children and other people. We can see a
good example of this when the Israelites
were wandering in the wilderness Moses told them that God had commanded them to
take some of the manna and keep it so that their future generations would see
the bread that He gave them in the wilderness. (Exodus 16:32)
