When you are dealing with recurrent engaged in long spiritual warfare, do not use the same tactics for each new battle you face.
When the Philistines prepared to attack David, he inquired of God and God promised to deliver them into his hands and David defeated them in Baal Perazim. (2 Samuel 5:17-21)
However the Philistines were not through with David because they once again deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.
David did a very good thing because he inquired of the Lord again. He did not assume that the battle strategy he had used in the first battle would help him defeat the Philistines this time around.
When he inquired of God, he was told, "You shall not go up. Circle behind them and come upon them infront of the mulberry trees. (2 Samuel 5:23)
Therefore if you are dealing with a recurrent problem, do not assume that the strategies you used the last time will also work this time. Consult God even if you are dealing with the same enemy because He is the one Who knows best how to tackle the issue.
God will even tell you when to attack for He told David, When you hear the marching sound from the tops of the mulberry trees, advance quickly because then the Lord will go out before you to strike the Philistine camp." (2 Samuel 5:24)
David obeyed God's strategy and prevailed over the Philistines. So Acknowledge the Lord in all your ways and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6) even when you are engaged in recurrent spiritual battles.
This principle of consulting God repeatedly when you are facing the same recurrent problem also applies to other life situations.
We can see that when King Balak sent messengers to ask Balaam to curse the Israelites, Balaam told them to spend the night so that he could consult God and God told him not to go with them. (Numbers 22:7-12)
King Balak did not give up and he sent another group of messengers to ask Balaam to curse the Israelites. Balaam also asked this second group to spend the night so that he might hear what God would say. (Numbers 22:15-19) He did not assume that God wanted him to do what he had done the last time Balak had sent messenger to him.
Therefore consult God each time you have to deal with recurring problems and do not assume the instructions He gave you the first time also apply for the second time they show up in your life.
