Are you going through deep problems?
Have people been asking you "Where is your God?"
If you are, learn the following lessons from the writer of Psalm 42.
This Psalmist was in a desperate situation for he says, As the deer pants for water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God (Psalm 42:1) and My soul thirsts for God, the living God. (Psalm 42:2)
He was also going through many problems because he sighs, My tears have been my food during the day and night. (Psalm 42:3)
His distress was deep for he says, I pour out my soul within me (Psalm 42:4) because he used to go to Church and praise God for he remembers I used to go with the multitude to the house of God with the voice of praise. (Psalm 42:4)
However instead of consolation, people were asking him, Where is your God? (Psalm 42:3) and "Where is your God?" (Psalm 42:10)
And so he is now asking himself, if he did those good things, why is he stressed? for he says, Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you disquieted within me? (Psalm 42:5)
His answer to himself is Hope in God because I shall still praise Him because of His help. (Psalm 42:5)
Therefore if you did the right thing, you do not have to worry even if you are now stressed by problems and you cannot answer the question "Where is your God?"
The Psalmist then goes on to tell God about his situation for he says, "O my God, my soul is cast down within me (Psalm 42:3) and Therefore I will remember You from the lowlands of Jordan and from the highlands of Hermon and the Hill Mizar. (Psalm 42:6)
He then expresses His trust in God by saying, The Lord will command His lovingkindness during the day and at night, His song shall be with me. (Psalm 42:8)
The Psalmist's prayer continues, I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I keep on crying because of the oppression of my enemy?" With the breaking of my bones, my enemies reproach me by asking, "Where is your God?" (Psalm 42:10)
As he waits for God to answer his questions, he answers himself by questioning himself, Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God because I shall yet praise Him for He is the help of my countenance and my God. (Psalm 42:11)
Therefore if people are asking you "Where is your God?" or if you are also asking yourself the same question because you served Him faithfully but now that you are in problems, you are not sure where His is, learn from this Psalmist and know that not knowing the answer to "Where is your God?" is not a reason to be depressed (cast down in your soul) or anxious or worried (disquieted within you).
So when people ask you "Where is your God?", answer them by asking yourself, Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you disquieted within me? (Psalm 42:5) and then encourage yourself by telling yourself Hope in God because I shall still praise Him because of His help. (Psalm 42:5)
