You shall not covet your neighbor's house, wife, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey or anything that is your neighbor's. (Exodus 20:17)
This 10th commandment tells us that we should not yearn for the things our neighbors possess - from their spouses to their houses and all that belongs to them.
To avoid coveting, we have to breed godly contentment since Godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6) To do this, we have to be gratefully satisfied with what God has given us.
This does not mean that we should not have life goals. It only means that we should work towards our goals from a place of godly contentment rather than from envious discontentment.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask You in the name of Jesus to forgive me for the times I have craved for things that my neighbors own. Help me to be satisfied with what You have blessed me with even as I work to fulfill my life's purpose.
