Know what the Bible says about Marriage
Once you are set on having a Christian marriage, you have to know what the Bible says about marriage.
For starters the Bible says:
Husbands are to love their wives just as Christ loves the church. (Ephesians 5:25)
Wives are to submit to their husbands. (Ephesians 5:22)
Marriage is a honorable thing and the marriage bed should not be defiled. (Hebrews 13:4)
Therefore write down these Scriptures in a notebook and add any others you may come across so that you can share them with your potential spouse once you begin dating and see if your views on marriage match.
Know your Life’s Purpose
Knowing what God wants you to do with the rest of your life before you look for someone to share the rest of your life with is very important.
We can see that when Abraham sent his servant to look for a wife for his son Isaac, he was very clear that he did not want Isaac to go back to the land from which God had called him. He, therefore, told his servant that if the woman refused to come to where there were presently living, Isaac would not be taken to her. (Genesis 24:1-8)
Therefore ensure that you have a good idea of what God wants you to do with the rest of your life so that you can share it with your potential spouse to see if your plans rhyme or clash.
Date Safely
Do not stir up love or awaken passion before its time (Song of Solomon 8:4) because this can lead to sins like fornication as well as unwanted pregnancies and incurable diseases.
Therefore date safely by deciding in advance the activities you will not engage in so that you can maintain your sexual purity.
If you are tempted, find a way to leave the tempting situation quickly and Do not throw your pearls to the pigs (Matthew 7:6) even if you consider them to be old pearls because they are still precious in the eyes of the Lord.
