Relaxation Tips: Progressively relax, Quieten yourself, Repeat repetitive activities

The following relaxation tips can help you manage stress more effectively:

Progressively Relax Yourself

Progressive muscle relaxation is a very effective relaxation technique which can be done by almost everyone since it does not require any equipment. Therefore, progressively relax your body whenever you begin to feel tense.

To do this, loosen your clothing and lie down in a quiet place. Tighten the muscles of your right foot for a few seconds and focus on how it feels. Follow this by relaxing the same muscles and focusing on the sensation so that you can know when those muscles are tense and when they are relaxed.

Follow this by tightening and relaxing the muscles of your left foot and registering the resultant sensations. Continue doing this as you work your way to your head and you will find that you are completely relaxed by the time you finish with the muscles of your face.

Quieten Yourself

When you find yourself feeling queasy and uneasy, take a few moments to find out the cause so that you can deal with it.

If your unsettling feelings are caused by something that you cannot deal with there and then, spend a few minutes quietening yourself so that you can adapt to it.

To do this, you can squeeze a stress ball to release the tension and then massage your temples with a calming cream to soothe yourself. Finally, put yourself at ease by confessing reassuring Bible verses like Be still and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)

Repeat Repetitive Activities

Activities with repetitive motions are known to help the body relax.

Therefore, engage in hobbies that involve repetitive motion activities like sewing, knitting, sweeping, rowing and even brushing your hair.

For optimum results, include your repetitive motion activities in your daily relaxation routines. For example, you can brush your hair and read the Bible before going to bed each night.

Do Not Be Anxious

Be anxious for nothing. But, in everything by prayer and supplication together with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4: 6-7)

Therefore pray about the stressful situation that is trying to make you anxious and ask God for what you need to solve it and then thank Him for the blessings He has given you and those you are expecting Him to give you.
