Christian Marriage Counseling Bible Verses

Biblical marital counseling should begin with heeding the following Bible verses for Christian marriage counseling:


1. Bible verses to remind couples to incorporate God in their marriage:

A cord of three strands is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)


Trust in God with all your heart and do not rely on your understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct you. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

With God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

2. Bible verses to remind couples to forgive each other:
Repay no one evil for evil. (Romans 12:17)

Put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, bearing with one another and forgiving each other.  (Colossians 3:12-13)

Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we forgive those who have wronged us. (Matthew 6:12)

Do not say, "I will do to that person just as they have done to me." (Proverbs 24:29)

Can two walk together unless they be agreed? (Amos 3:3)

If as you bring your gift to the altar you remember that your spouse has something against you, leave your gift there and first go to reconcile with your spouse and then come and offer your gift to God. (Adapted Matthew 5:23-24)

Be of the same mind in the Lord. (Philippians 4:2)

5. Bible verses to remind couples that they should avoid hurting each other:
Marriage is honorable and the marriage bed should be kept pure. (Hebrews 13:4)

Do not deal treacherously with your wife. (Malachi 2:15)

Do not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)


6. Bible verses to show couples how they should treat each other:
Husbands love your wives as yourselves and wives respect your husbands. (Ephesians 5:33)

Husbands live with your wife with understanding ... so that your prayers will not be hindered. (1 Peter 3:7)

Wives be submissive to your husbands … so that they may be won over by your conduct when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied with fear. Do not let your adornment be just on the outside – the styling of your hair, wearing gold or putting on fine clothes – rather let it be the hidden person in your heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is very precious in the sight of God. (1 Peter 3:1-5)

Be humble, gentle, patient, bearing with one another in love and making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:2-3)

Do not do anything out of self-ambition or conceit. In humility, esteem your spouse as better than yourself. Look out not only for your interests but also for the interests of your spouse. (Adapted Philippians 2:3-4)

A soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)
Above all things love each other fervently because love covers many sins. (1 Peter 4:8)


7. Bible verses to remind couples on how to love each other:
Love is patient and kind. It does not envy and it is not proud or conceited. Love does not behave rudely and it is not selfish or irritable. Love does think evil thoughts or rejoice in evil as it rejoices in good. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Above all things put on love since it is the perfect bond. (Colossians 3:14)

Above all things love each other fervently because love covers many sins. (1 Peter 4:8)

Marriage is honorable and the marriage bed should be kept pure. (Hebrews 13:4)

The wife does not have authority over how body, her husband does. Similarly, the husband does not have authority over his body, his wife does. Do not deprive each other except after first agreeing to do so in order to devote yourselves to fasting and prayer and then resume marital relations again so that satan does not tempt you. (1 Corinthians 7:4-5)
Love is patient and kind. Love does not envy. Love is not boastful. Love is not rude. Love thinks no evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Love bears all things. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
