New Year, New Beginnings is an excerpt from the book New Beginnings which uses examples from
the Bible of people who made a fresh start like Jacob, Paul and Joshua to teach
you the principles for beginning a new venture or starting the New Year right.
This New Year book also lists the Bible verses you can use as Christian
affirmations and meditations for success in your new season.
New Beginnings
Are you beginning a new job,
business or ministry?
Do you want to start the New
Year right?
If you do, follow these
principles from the Word of God:
Ask God What He
Wants You To Do
Paul had a new beginning on his
journey to Damascus because one minute he was healthy Saul with a high profile
job receiving orders from the council of elders (Acts 22:5) and in the next, he
had fallen to the ground and become blind. (Acts 22:11)
Saul then asked, “What shall I do Lord?” (Acts 22:10) and
Jesus told him to go to Damascus and he would be given further instructions.
Therefore at the beginning of
each New Year or new venture or season in your life, pray and ask, “What shall I do Lord?” (Acts 22:10) so that you can know what He wants
you to do.
Sanctify Yourself
When the Israelites were
preparing to cross the River Jordan and begin a new life in their Promised
Land, Joshua said to them, "Sanctify yourselves because tomorrow God
will do wonders among you." (Joshua 3:5)
This wonder that Joshua was
expecting God to do for the Israelites was helping them cross the flooded River
Jordan (Joshua 3:15) without a boat.
Therefore if you are expecting
God to do wonders for you as you enter the New Year or begin a new venture, sanctify
yourself by doing the following:
1. Confess your sins
Confess all your sins and ask
God to forgive you. Ask Him to also remind you of the sins you have forgotten so
that you can confess them and ask for His forgiveness.
2. Obey the commandments
Go through the 10 commandments
and evaluate your life to see if you are obeying them. If you are not, confess
your sin, make a conscious decision to obey them and ask God to help you.
Commandment #1. You shall not have other gods.
2 I am
the Lord thy God, which
have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt
have no other gods before me.
To keep this
commandment decide that you will only pray and worship the God of the Bible
through His Son Jesus Christ.
Focus all your
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual efforts on keeping this commandment
and once you have succeeded move on to the next commandment.
Commandment #2. You shall not make idols.
4 Thou shalt
not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in
heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under
the earth.
5 Thou shalt
not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and
fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And
shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
To keep this
commandment remove all images and statues of other gods from your home, car,
business and other properties that you control.
Focus all your
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual efforts on keeping this commandment
and once you have succeeded move on to the next commandment.
Commandment #3. You shall not use the name of the Lord your God in vain.
7 Thou shalt
not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will
not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
To keep this commandment stop
using phrases that involve the name of God or His Son Jesus when you are
exclaiming or cussing or any other purpose that does not involve praying or talking
about God reverently.
Focus all your
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual efforts on keeping this commandment
and once you have succeeded move on to the next commandment.
