Life Lesson 3 from Prophet Elijah and the Poor Widow

Be Honest with God

When Elijah asked the widow to bring him a piece of bread, she responded by saying she did not have any bread only a handful of flour and a little oil.

She even gave the specifics and told him where they were (in a bin and in a jar) and what she had planned to do with them (prepare the last meal for her son and herself). (1 Kings 17:12)

Thus we can see that she was honest with Elijah and by extension with God.

God definitely knew the minutiae of her situation and we do not know if He revealed them to Elijah but the point is that we have to be honest and tell God of our circumstances even if we know that already He knows about them.

This act of telling God is important because it brings us closer to Him and also acts as a form of catharsis as we cast our cares to Him.

Therefore be honest with God and tell Him the minute details of your stressful situation because by so doing you will also be obeying 1 Peter 5:7 which says Cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you and Psalm 55:22 which says Cast your cares upon Him and He will sustain you.
