Life Lesson 8 from Prophet Elijah and the Poor Widow
Believe in God
This poor widow was not an
Israelite and yet God chose to perform this great miracle of feeding her and her son during the
famine through His prophet Elijah because of her faith.
We know this because when
Jesus was rejected by His people in the synagogue in Nazareth after he preached
and they asked, “Is this not Joseph’s
son?” (Luke 4:22), He told them, “A
prophet is not accepted in his country” (Luke 4:24) and then He went on to
tell them that “There were many widows
in Israel in the days of Elijah when it did not rain for 3 ½ years and there
was a great famine but Elijah was not sent to any of them except to a widow in
Zarephath.” (Luke 4:25)
By giving this example in
this context Jesus was showing the people of Nazareth that this widow had faith
in the God of Israel even though she was from Sidon and that is why God chose to
send His prophet to her.
Therefore regardless of who
you are or where you live, decide to have faith and believe in the God of Israel so that He can solve
your problems and use you to achieve His purposes here on earth.
