Thank God For No Room In The Inn

Christmas Devotional Thank God For No Room In The Inn

Bible Reading

After Baby Jesus was born, He was Laid in a manger because there was no room in the inn. (Luke 2:7)

Background

Caesar Augustus decreed that there should be a census and every person had to go back to their city. Joseph therefore had to leave Nazareth and go to Bethlehem to be counted together with Mary who was pregnant. While there were there, she gave birth to Baby Jesus and laid him in a manger where animals were kept because there was no room for them in the inn where the human guests slept. (Luke 2:1-7)

After Jesus was born, wise men came from the East and asked King Herod, "Where is the King of the Jews Who has been born?" (Matthew 2:2)

King Herod and those who were with him in Jerusalem were troubled by this news (Matthew 2:3) and he sent the wise men to find the Baby King and tell him of His whereabouts.

These wise men were led by a star to the exact location of Baby Jesus and they worshiped him. They were then divinely warned in a dream not to go back to King Herod. (Matthew 2:12)

After they left, God's Angel appeared to Joseph and told him to take Jesus and Mary to Egypt because Herod would look for the Baby to destroy Him. (Matthew 2:13)

Joseph obeyed and then King Herod killed all the baby boys aged less than 2 years in Bethlehem. (Matthew 2:16)

Bible Lesson

If Jesus had been born inside a guest room in the inn, the visitation by the wise men from the East bearing treasures of gold, myrrh and frankincense would have attracted a lot of attention and maybe word would have even gotten back to King Herod about a new born baby receiving special guests from a foreign country.

Being born in a room where animals were kept therefore protected Baby Jesus because the wise men were able to come and go without people noticing them. Consequently the location of the Baby King was kept secret until his family fled to Egypt and escaped the massacre of babies.

Therefore even though it may have seemed to be a "bad thing" that there was no room in the inn for pregnant Mary and Joseph after their long journey, it was actually a "good thing" because Jesus was born in the privacy of an animal shelter and was able to receive his important guests and valuable gifts in secrecy.

The Lord is good and a stronghold in the day of trouble and He knows those who trust in Him. (Nahum 1:7)

Application

Therefore if you were doing what God asked you to do the way God's Angel told Mary she would be pregnant with the Son of God and she agreed by saying Let it be done to me according to your word. (Luke 1:38)

AND

You are doing the right thing the way pregnant Mary had to go with Joseph to Bethlehem to be counted

AND

You loose something that you really needed or wanted the way a heavily pregnant woman needs a comfortable bed in a room after a long journey understand that your loss could be a blessing in disguise.

So regardless of whether you  have lost money or a job or scholarship or a relationship or something else that you really needed take it as a blessing in disguise because God could be protecting you from dangers you do not yet know about.

Therefore as you experience the stress, pain and discomfort of missing a room in any inn in life, decide to trust God because The Lord is good and a stronghold in the day of trouble and He knows those who trust in Him. (Nahum 1:7)

So trust God through your stressful season and Give thanks to the Lord because He is good (1 Chronicles 16:34) because your current loss could end up benefiting you in the long run.

Round of your praise and worship session by also thanking Him for the things you got because even if you missed a room in the inn, you received blessings like a healthy body and journey mercies. So, In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
